Description of the organisation

Founded in 1992 as a spin-off from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Naples “Federico II”, NOVOTECH has built strong, market-proven expertise in aircraft and aerostructures, covering design and certification, automated composite manufacturing, advanced FEA, and static/dynamic experimental testing. Over the years, NOVOTECH has manufactured several composite demonstrators using Automated Fiber Placement (AFP), including a tail-cone section for the Next Generation Turboprop Regional Aircraft (NGTP) and a lower-skin portion of the M-346 trainer, alongside extensive testing to qualify and validate the associated design methodologies. Today, the Company is actively involved in R&D projects focused on investigating innovative configurations and on the characterization and processing of multifunctional CFRP multi-layer materials manufactured through automated technologies. Since late 2014, NOVOTECH has been recognized by Syensqo (formerly Cytec/Solvay Group) as a qualified laboratory for the development and testing of new materials for AFP and Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) processes. NOVOTECH also demonstrates consolidated capability in designing and manufacturing composite structures using cost-effective, out-of-autoclave automated processes (AFP, PCM, RTM, and LRI). Within the Horizon Europe COCOLIH2T project, an innovation developed with NOVOTECH’s contribution was positively assessed by the European Commission’s Innovation Radar.

Role in the CRYOSTAR Project

NOVOTECH leads the manufacturing, integration, and assembly of the full test article for the LH₂ crashworthiness verification campaign. Leveraging proven expertise in advanced composite structures and aerostructural integration, NOVOTECH will design and produce the cryogenic tank, implement the required fuselage-section modifications, integrate the tank into the test article, and install all subsystems and instrumentation needed for the experimental setup. Building on results from the COCOLIH₂T project, NOVOTECH will manufacture both inner and outer LH₂ tanks using existing mandrels and molds, ensuring continuity, efficiency, and reduced lead time. NOVOTECH will also design and manufacture the integration substructure providing the mechanical interface and attachment to the aft-fuselage test rig. The company is responsible for final integration activities, including sensor installation, routing of auxiliary hardware, and delivery of the complete article to the selected crash-test facility. In parallel, NOVOTECH leads WP2, defining requirements and crash scenarios and supporting the crashworthiness certification approach.
